That’s soft and washable if a bit messy at the time.
What happens when the bird has a very sharp beak and talons designed to catch prey.

How did your photographer get the puffins to sit still for a picture? Big telephoto lens?

No – Puffins are quite friendly birds. You can come right up to them. So long as you don’t try to touch them they will blissfully ignore you. The same goes for gannets, guillemots and razorbills.
